On September 11, 2001, the country changed.Â
The days that followed were marked by grief, but also by something else: a determination to stand together and serve a larger purpose.Â
At Ingalls Shipbuilding, shipbuilders answered that call with the work of their hands.Â
Using steel from each site, Ingalls shipbuilders built three ships to carry the names and memories of those lost that day: USS New York (LPD 21), USS Arlington (LPD 24) and USS Somerset (LPD 25).Â
But what went into those ships was more than steel. Â
It was a promise to remember.Â

Those ships are now doing what they were built to do. They stand ready when the nation calls.Â
And shipbuilders are doing the same.Â
Today, the strength of America’s Navy is a national priority. The demand for ships is putting a renewed focus on the people and shipyards that make that strength possible.Â
Ingalls Shipbuilding is at the center of that effort. Every ship built here adds to the fleet our nation will rely on tomorrow. Every shipbuilder here has a part in making sure those ships are safe, capable and ready when needed.
