Created by the Shipbuilder Engagement team, the Ingalls Champions volunteer program is an opportunity for shipbuilders to stay engaged and network by supporting special events. During the inaugural Shipbuilder Engagement Day, Damaris Casiano, Sheetmetal mechanic, was recognized as the first-ever Ingalls Champion of the Year!
“I was totally overwhelmed in receiving this award because I didn’t expect it at all,” said Damaris. “I’m truly honored to be picked amongst so many nominees. It felt good to be appreciated and recognized.”
Damaris’ recognition was based on nominations from her peers. According to her nominators, she’s known for having a great personality, being down to earth and taking pride in hard work.
“She has volunteered for everything at Ingalls since I’ve been around her,” read one of the nominations for Damaris. “She works hard every day, works as much overtime as she can get and still finds time to volunteer.”
By volunteering, Damaris makes the most of her opportunities to connect with other shipbuilders and the community. She encourages everyone at Ingalls to find ways to stay engaged and support the growing culture in the shipyard.Â
“Volunteering and being a part of Ingalls Champions makes me feel respected and valued by my peers,” said Damaris. “Receiving this award shows me my work doesn’t go unnoticed and that it’s setting a good example for future volunteers.”
