As shipbuilders continue to learn about the Operations Resource Centers (ORCs), welding general foreman Alicia Davis understands the benefit of having them in the shipyard.
Alicia needed help with the new ORION program, so she went to an ORC to receive help. She was able to ask questions and gain a better understanding of the program. Â
“Depending on the environment, some people tend to shy away from asking questions,” said Alicia. “The ORCs are presented as a space to get the help we need to complete our daily tasks.”
Learning about the shipyard is an ongoing process. Alicia understands the value of having the ORCs as a place where foremen can master their craft and overcome challenges they may face.
“It’s just good to know the company supports this initiative by creating the space and time to help foremen,” said Alicia.
ORCs are not only here to assist foremen with the regular duties at the position, but also leadership tools. They are tasked to lead a crew with different personalities towards the goal of building quality warships that will help protect our nation. Â
“Foremen should come in and utilize all of the resources ORCS have to offer,” said Alicia. “This is definitely needed and every shipbuilder and vessel will benefit from this.”
