More than 40 uncrewed vehicles. Jamming. A complex and dynamic electronic warfare environment.
That was the setting as HII Mission Technologies’ GRIMM and CLOAK payloads took part in the U.S. Navy’s Silent Swarm Electronic Warfare Exercise 2026, where the Electronics Systems team demonstrated the technologies aboard Navy small uncrewed surface vehicles.
The Navy specifically requested GRIMM and CLOAK for Silent Swarm as it evaluates small, mature EW payloads that can be integrated across its growing fleet of uncrewed surface and air vehicles. The Electronic Systems team integrated three GRIMM systems and one CLOAK system aboard four Global Autonomous Reconnaissance Craft, or GARCs. It marked the first time GRIMM and CLOAK were rapidly integrated onto the small USV platform.
Throughout the exercise, the payloads effectively operated amid multiple uncrewed surface and air vehicles, jamming and other EW challenges while executing geolocation and assured positioning, navigation and timing missions. Geolocation, assured positioning, navigation and timing capabilities can help the Navy identify, track and target threats. Moving those missions onto small uncrewed platforms can also free up manned platforms to focus on other high-priority missions.
For the Electronics Systems team, Silent Swarm was an opportunity to exhibit those capabilities directly to its Navy customers while proving GRIMM and CLOAK could be rapidly integrated onto a new small USV and successfully operate in a complex and dynamic EW environment.
