Innovative “Extreme Ownership” event earns top honors in Internal Event Strategy category
Mission Technologies won a Ragan Award on April 9 for its 2024 Leadership Summit, which featured keynote speaker Leif Babin, co-author of “Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win.”
The summit, held in March 2024 at Lansdowne Resort in Leesburg, Virginia, was recognized in the internal event strategy category.
“When communications and marketing align with business goals, we create extraordinary impact,” said Jaime Orlando, Mission Technologies’ senior vice president of communications. “Our Leadership Summit became a transformative catalyst for record-breaking performance. I’m immensely proud of our communications team who brought this vision to life. Their creativity, dedication and strategic thinking transformed a standard leadership meeting into an award-winning experience that continues to drive results across our division.”
Summit Highlights
The two-day event brought together more than 130 directors and vice presidents from across the division and built an experience that united leadership, arming them with the tools to boldly lead through uncertainty, enhance collaboration and propel the business forward.
Creative elements like personalized walk-up songs for presenters and thoughtfully branded materials created a memorable experience that resonated with attendees.
“The Extreme Ownership discussion was great,” one leader remarked. Others noted, “I thought the blend of presentations and interactive activities was excellent” and “Fantastic summit all around.”
Measurable Business Impact
In the quarters following the summit, Mission Technologies achieved record-breaking financial performance, with Q2 seeing operating income increase by 300% year-over-year.
Leaders particularly valued the networking opportunities. One leader said, “The summit was extremely valuable with respect to providing an opportunity to meet and engage in person with leaders from other business groups.”
Looking Ahead: 2025 June Leadership Summit
Mission Technologies is preparing for its next leadership summit in June. The upcoming event will expand on the principles established while introducing new elements to further strengthen leadership capabilities.
“Hope we do something like this at least once a year,” one participant said, echoing the sentiment expressed by many.
Mission Technologies also received an honorable mention in the recruiting and retention category for its “Mission Starts at Home” program.
