Dear HII colleagues:
I am pleased to announce that John Bell has been promoted to chief technology officer for our Mission Technologies division and Nanda Ramanujam has been promoted to vice president of technology, effective immediately.
Their promotions coincide with a restructure of HII’s Chief Technology Office. The Mission Technologies CTO office and the corporate CTO office will continue to “operate as one” to support the rapidly expanding technology demands of HII. The joint office will provide support to Mission Technologies growth, create new cross-division opportunities, and support the launch of “industry 4.0” (AI, Big Data, and Robotics) capabilities across our shipyards. There is an unprecedented opportunity for HII to create “first of its kind” artificial intelligence/big data projects which are strategic to HII and the U.S. Navy. Together, we will curate this vision and cultivate the expertise that is needed.
While Nanda will report to me, John will report to Mission Technologies President Andy Green, and together we will manage the investments and the teams of subject experts needed to insure that HII remains a thought leader in its markets during this critical time of industrial and operational revolution.
John previously served as the technical director for Mission Technologies’ Live, Virtual, Constructive Solutions business group. He led the development, operation and maintenance of multiple LVC training programs, including the Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE), Mobility Air Force Distributed Mission Operations (MAF DMO), and the Joint Staff J7 Joint Training Synthetic Environment (JTSE). Prior to joining HII, he worked as a contractor at NASA and DARPA. He earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Old Dominion University. John has decades of software and system architecture development experience and is an industry leader in virtualization.
Nanda previously served as managing director of strategic initiatives and AI operations at Mission Technologies. Prior to joining HII, he was chief technology officer of the Defense Solutions division of DRS Technologies. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School and a PhD in optics from the University of Arizona. He also completed a post-doctoral fellowship at MIT’s Research Laboratory of Electronics. Nanda is an experienced techno-entrepreneur and ideally suited to help lead our pipeline of new cross divisional technology projects.
Please join me in congratulating Nanda and John. I am excited about the scale of opportunities we have before us as generational demand exists across our HII portfolio. From shipbuilding throughput to enterprise AI powered informatics, we are poised to create growth.
Sincerely,
Todd Borkey
Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer
