Team building opportunities can be a huge asset in the workplace. Combine fun outside activities with shipbuilders from Supply Chain Management (SCM), and you get the SCM Field Day!
“I was pleased with the success of our SCM Field Day, and I’m eager to see it become a tradition,” said Scott Weldon, vice president, Supply Chain Management. “Providing a day for our shipbuilders to enjoy a safe family environment with good food and fellowship reinforces our commitment to engagement and teamwork.”
Planned by a committee within the department, SCM Field Day was a chance for shipbuilders to connect with each other and their families at Gautier City Park. The event featured a range of activities like scavenger hunts, kickball, splash pads and great food prepared by Scott.
“It was very refreshing to spend quality time with my work family outside of the daily grind,” said Rob Santos, cost engineer. “My favorite activity was kickball because it brought out the kid and competitiveness in all of us.”
Events like SCM Field Day build trust and chemistry among coworkers that can benefit the work environment. When challenging tasks show up, shipbuilders can feel comfortable knowing they can rely on one another to get the job done.
“SCM Field Day allowed me to connect with people I interact with daily but haven’t had the chance to get to know on a personal level,” said Sara Thomas, procurement planning control representative. “I had a great time and I look forward to the next SCM event.”
