Kastner Highlights Division’s Growth in Podcast Interview
HII President and CEO Chris Kastner highlighted Mission Technologies’ growth in an interview on the Defense and Aerospace Daily Podcast on Jan. 9, saying the division is doing “very, very well.”
“They had $5 billion of awards in 2023—through Q3,” he said. “They’re growing at a significant rate. They are as large as Ingalls [Shipbuilding] now.”
Kastner went on to say that Mission Technologies brings “a technology focus to the corporation and to our shipbuilding business that we really didn’t have before.”
“They give us a technology seat at the table,” he said, “when we go talk to combatant commands on solving some of their most complicated and important, relevant issues that they’re dealing with right now.”
Earlier in the interview, Kastner was asked about the U.S. Navy’s changing requirements for unmanned systems. “While long-term plans may shift around a little bit, unmanned is here to stay,” he said. “It’s a capability that is inexpensive and can perform missions that you don’t really want to tie up a capital ship to perform. … It’s starting to ramp. It’s very positive for us right now, and we feel good about where we’re positioned.”
