Ingalls in the Community: A Summer of Fun and STEAM Learning with TrainTastic

Educational outings during the summer break are a valuable tool for keeping students engaged, curious and prepared for the upcoming school year. This summer, Ingalls Shipbuilding sponsored more than 200 students from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Jackson County so they could enjoy a memorable outing at TrainTastic in Gulfport. At the Mississippi Coast’s model railroad museum, students immersed themselves in a world of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics).

This initiative highlights Ingalls Shipbuilding’s commitment to enriching educational experiences and fostering community connections.

“We’re excited to support programs that make a meaningful impact on students and their families,” said Lisa Bradley, manager, Community Relations & Corporate Stewardship. “Our dedication to community engagement is a core part of who we are.”

During the summer break, TrainTastic offered students a unique chance to explore trains through interactive STEAM activities. TrainTastic’s hands-on exhibits, including engineering challenges and artistic model train displays, sparked curiosity and excitement among the young learners.

Do you have a student in need of after-school or intersession care? As the new school year approaches, consider exploring the best options for you and your family. Ingalls partners with organizations like the YMCA, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Gulf Coast and Jackson County, and the cities of Pascagoula and Moss Point to support youth programs and care opportunities, helping to build a brighter future for our students.
