Erica Dover started working at HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division in 2017 and moved to Mission Technologies in 2022. Currently working as project management analyst on the Human Resources team, she’s passionate about career mobility, professional development, flexible work—and advocating for the deaf community.
“It’s been wonderful to be able to jump through the divisions. I started in facilities and engineering; I was interested in project management, and it was just so easy to hop over to Mission Technologies and do that too.
“Also the tuition reimbursement. I’m getting ready to start a class with Villanova for Lean Six Sigma. I love being able to have that to help further my career. And I’ve loved the work/life balance. I work from home, and it’s just so flexible. I can take my daughter to the doctor if we need to and then just do what I need to do.
“My grandparents are deaf and my mom is a CODA [child of deaf adults], so her first language was sign language. … I was very heavily embedded in the deaf community. They’ve overcome so much. You know, just because they have that disability doesn’t mean that they don’t have the same capability as somebody who is hearing, so it just it means a lot to me.
“I’m making sure that we’re able to recruit and have the visibility to those individuals that are part of that community. So I’m in the right place to make sure that we’re reaching that community.”
