New “My Path” Website Provides Clarity for Salaried Workforce

My Path, a new resource site, is now available to provide clarity for individual contributors as they explore and consider salaried positions throughout Newport News Shipbuilding. This online tool can also be used by managers and supervisors to guide growth and development conversations with employees.

Twelve overarching career families are available to view, which include reflective questions to assist individuals in determining if a certain area of NNS might be good fit for their skills, talents and interests. Over 150 position profiles also showcase job descriptions, alternate career pathways and possible management opportunities for the future. Visitors to the site can search by career family or individual positions.

A cross-functional project team worked together to compile and analyze data, create graphics and content and build a user-friendly site to clearly display individual contributor positions and pathways for the salaried workforce.

“As a newer employee myself, I saw a unique opportunity to assist shipbuilders with understanding how the shipyard is organized and the variety of options available as they plan their career here,” said Crystal Midlik, project lead. “Our team collaborated throughout the year with the goal of ensuring representation from across the company to include relevant and accurate information that is easy to access and use.”

My Path is designed to include as many current salaried individual contributor positions as possible within NNS to provide transparency as employees consider their career path and future aspirations. Some positions might be filled by hundreds of employees, while others are only held by a few individuals. Staffing requirements change to reflect business needs within the company, and some positions may be added or removed. A quarterly review of the site will be conducted to maintain current positions and provide any necessary updates.

Individual contributors are encouraged to use the My Path website as a resource to consider pathways and build a career here at NNS. Managers and supervisors can utilize this tool to support development conversations with employees. My Path is available through MyNNS under the Resources tab.
