HII was proud to return as a sponsor of the 38th Black Engineer of the Year Award STEM Conference that took place Feb. 15-17 in Baltimore, Maryland.
Congratulations to Mission Technologies’ award-winners:
- Marquis Bryant-Morgan, a mechanical engineer in the Nuclear and Environmental Services business group, honored with the Science Spectrum Trailblazer Award.
- Victor Deal, a business development manager on the Growth team, honored with the Technical Sales and Marketing Award.
- Harry Johnson, director of technology on the Growth team, honored with the Science Spectrum Trailblazer Award,
- Terrence Neal, a mechanical engineer in Nuclear and Environmental Services, honored with the Modern Day Technology Leader Award.
“The biggest thing I took away was how important it is to mentor others, particularly the under-represented,” Deal said. “I heard stories from people who faced personal and professional challenges and, despite obstacles, they found success. It was inspiring to see professionals pass on their knowledge to help the next generation make their way in the world.”
“Hearing their stories reinvigorated my desire to help and guide others because doing so can make a big difference in people’s lives,” he continued. “As a result, I will step up on opportunities to mentor young professionals at HII, knowing that this is key to making our organization more innovative and successful.”
“This was my third and most rewarding BEYA,” Johnson said. “The real essence of the BEYA experience was the opportunity to meet new colleagues and work with them to showcase ‘Team HII’ to the entire BEYA community during the conference and the career fair.”
“The award process showed me how much HII is invested in our professional development,” Johnson added.” When I told my leaders I wanted to compete, they supported my efforts even though I was very new to HII. HII teammates across the enterprise came together to advise me and help me assemble a winning packet. They say success is a team sport. This award reminds me how fortunate I am to be part of the HII Mission Technologies Team.”
