HII Moves into New Advanced Materials and Coatings Lab in Chicago
HII Mission Technologies will reveal a brand-new Advanced Materials and Coatings Laboratory (AMCL) facility during a grand opening event on Sept. 26 in Chicago.
“This new space represents a tremendous opportunity for our AMCL team to push the boundaries of what’s possible,” said Kaliah Jackson, senior chemist and program manager. “It feels like a fresh start and a chance to grow and expand our capabilities in ways that will directly benefit our customers.”
The AMCL, a recognized leader in spacecraft thermal control products and protective coatings, has a 60-year history specializing in the preparation and application of advanced coatings for spacecraft and satellites, safeguarding aerospace assets from the effects of space environments.
With a heritage of providing solutions to NASA, the International Space Station (ISS), the U.S. Department of Defense, and other key clients, the AMCL continues to stand at the forefront of aerospace material science.
The 13,250 square foot space features dedicated laboratories for specialized tasks, enabling the AMCL experts to focus solely on research and development without constraints.
“The new facility brings more warmth and space to the work environment, making every workday more exciting,” said Alex Korolenko, a chemical handler. “It inspires more ideas for future projects and allows us to truly immerse ourselves in the scientific process.”
“This space allows for better separation of our processes, with each having its own dedicated area,” said Trevor Peters, a laboratory technician. “There’s a renewed excitement about the scientific process, as my focus can now be on progressing aerospace endeavors without splitting my time with other responsibilities.”
Beyond the laboratory upgrades, the new facility also features a dedicated break room.
“The addition of a break room is a welcome change, offering a physical separation for eating and de-stressing,” said Mindy Yates, a laboratory technician. “The facility location also provides an easier commute.”
The AMCL has been part of the Chicago community for more than six decades. The grand opening event will be attended by local dignitaries, including Mayor Frank Trilla and members of the Chicago Chamber of Commerce, reaffirming the significance of this investment in the community and the broader aerospace industry.
“We will continue to produce excellent products while embracing the science behind them and finding new ways to address the unmet needs of our current and future customers,” said Tanner Hoppman, a laboratory technician.
“It feels like a new start and a new opportunity to grow and expand,” Jackson added. “It feels surreal to look back on how far we’ve come.”
