Mission Technologies Sponsors STEM Challenges that Ignite Young Minds

Mission Technologies sponsored a STEM challenge event on Oct. 12 at the Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science & Technology (MOST) in Syracuse, New York.

The event brought together 130 teams of students ranging from grades 4-12 competing to build and test catapults using everyday household materials like popsicle sticks and rubber bands. The challenge was to see how far and how accurately each team’s creation could launch a ping pong ball.

“Being a part of local STEM challenges is important to our commitment to volunteerism and our goal of inspiring the next generation of engineers and scientists,” said Dino Cencetti, a vice president of operations at Mission Technologies. “It also allows us to give back to the communities where we live and work.”

The competition provided a platform for young minds to apply their STEM knowledge and offered a glimpse into the potential of the next generation of innovators.

As Tyler Bell, a software engineer who volunteered the event, noted: “The children competing showed a lot of enthusiasm in launching their STEM careers.”

“The event was a lot of fun, and I was not expecting the large crowd of people that participated,” said Kaleb Kang, an electronics engineer who also volunteered the event. “Being able to see all the unique designs and discuss engineering concepts with the students makes me super excited to see what they’ll be able to do in the future.”

A second is planned on Nov. 9.
