Makhi Davis
Shipfitter
Seven years at NNS
“Out of high school, I knew I wanted to work with my hands. My goal was to drive trucks, but my mom convinced me to come to the shipyard. I don’t regret listening to her. I value meeting new people and building those relationships. Our crew comes from different backgrounds, but by working together, we’ve turned into a kind of family. Since I’m a makeup foreman, I’d like to make foreman one day. Being on makeup gives me the feel of both being on my tools and learning the other side of our jobs.”
The series features shipbuilders’ photos and their brief statements. If you or another shipbuilder you know is interested in being highlighted, email communications@hii-nns.com.
