Message from Kari Wilkinson: Leadership Update

Fellow Shipbuilders,

As a result of the work we are doing to improve material support to our teammates in the shops and on the waterfront, we have completed our evaluation of Supply Chain Management. The work the team has done to restructure and augment what has been done in the past will enable us to continue to step up our game now and in the future.

To this end, Matt Mulherin Jr. has accepted the challenge of being our vice president of Supply Chain & Strategic Sourcing. Matt and his team will be responsible for all procurement functions across the enterprise (warehousing and logistics will remain in Integrated Planning & Production Control), as well as working to more broadly define our opportunities to invest in and strengthen the industrial base that supports what we do here every day.

Matt is a second-generation shipbuilder and began his career here in 2004 as a financial analyst. He has served our organization in Business Management – most recently as vice president of Contracts & Pricing – across our programs and has led a multitude of successful contract negotiations on behalf of our team. Matt has also served as a program director within new construction aircraft carrier programs.

Earning his bachelor’s degree in finance from Virginia Tech and a master’s in business administration from The College of William & Mary, Matt has also been a student of our business systems and understands the things that drive our organization and help us execute on the deck plate. His experience to date makes him an excellent leader for this critical part of our success going forward.

Please join me in both congratulating and supporting Matt as he works diligently to improve our ability to succeed across the business.

Respectfully,
Kari Wilkinson
President, Newport News Shipbuilding
