The world’s first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier – Enterprise (CVN 65) – left HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division this morning, bound for dismantlement.

CVN 65 was built by Newport News shipbuilders and launched in 1960, marking the beginning of a new era for the U.S. Navy. The aircraft carrier served the Navy and the nation for 51 years, and was decommissioned in 2017.

HII President and CEO Chris Kastner was on the deck of CVN 65 when he recalled her service, and the contribution of sailors and shipbuilders the national defense in the below video:
