United Way Honors NNS and Welcomes New Campaign Cabinet Chair

Giving back to those in need is part of the company culture at Newport News Shipbuilding. This giving spirit was recently recognized at the United Way of the Virginia Peninsula Campaign Celebration.

The 2023-2024 United Way campaign generated $5.3 million in resources to help neighbors in need. HII and NNS were honored with the Corporate Supporters of the Year award, with donations accounting for close to 40% of the overall local United Way campaign.

Edmond Hughes, HII executive vice president and chief human resources officer, has been named the new United Way of the Virginia Peninsula Campaign Cabinet chair, committing to serve for the new campaign year. Hughes addressed the audience stating how important the United Way campaign is to supporting HII’s workforce, and how it’s vital to come together for the good of those who need us the most.

“I’m honored to serve as the campaign cabinet chair, and proud of the impact our HII community has been able to make in partnership with the United Way,” Hughes said. “We live our values by investing in our neighbors and communities. We live and work – and thrive – together.”

The NNS United Way campaign runs throughout the month of June. United Way and NNS Gives thank all the Corporate Citizenship ambassadors who help encourage and inspire their peers and co-workers to donate. Thank you for the time, energy and creativity you put into the United Way campaign.
