“HI began its journey in artificial intelligence back in 2018 and today we have what I would call a boutique shop with wide ranging capabilities that are key ingredients to big programs,” said Todd Borkey, executive vice president and chief technology officer at HII. “We deploy a wide range of AI applications in the systems, services, and platforms that we develop for DOD and other federal clients.”

AI refers to computer systems that perform tasks typically requiring human intelligence. These systems analyze massive amounts of data with incredible speed and accuracy. HII trains, tests, and integrates state-of-the-art AI algorithms into dozens of mission applications which extend performance where humans cannot scale. Today we are deploying AI into our shipbuilding enterprise to improve predictability and increase throughput.

An exciting new domain is Generative AI (GenAI), which can create business content and serve as co-pilots or decision aids. HII will begin testing of GenAI capabilities in shipyard functions this year. Exciting expansion plans will follow.
