HII’s Report to the Community

Dear neighbors, partners, and teammates:

We talk a lot about upholding our commitments at HII to our customers, co-workers, and shareholders. What has impressed and inspired me over the past year is our action in support of the communities where we operate, and where our employees live and work.

In 2023, HII contributed more than $7.2 million in charitable giving to education programs, veteran and military support groups, youth programs and much more. A growing number of employees volunteered last year, proving that we are building momentum for creating positive change around each other, our families and our neighbors. Some examples include:

NEWPORT NEWS SHIPBUILDING joined elected officials and community leaders in December to dedicate the 20th and 21st houses shipyard volunteers have constructed in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg since 2002. The two homes were partly built by Habitat for Humanity using 3D printing technology.

INGALLS SHIPBUILDING joined forces with Extra Table as well as community and business leaders to provide more than 7,500 boxes of food for families in need.

Nearly three dozen MISSION TECHNOLOGIES employees volunteered at a Rise Against Hunger event in McLean, Virginia, during the division’s fourth annual Global Day of Caring.

HII’S CORPORATE employees packaged more than 4,500 pounds of food at the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank, in Hampton, Virginia, to help families in need during the holiday season.

HII also kept up our long-standing relationships with the United Way, American Red Cross and American Heart Association, among others.

In this Report to the Community, you will find the names of thousands of HII employees who volunteered their time and talents in 2023. Their efforts create a better world in ways are real but often hard to fully measure. What I know is this: Our strength at HII lies in our ability to join together for maximum impact. We multiply our power collectively as a force for the positive change we want to see in the world, whether in our work spaces, in our families or in our communities.

Please join me in offering these volunteers a well-deserved “thank you” for their efforts. And I hope you too will consider volunteering in 2024, and beyond.
