It is election season, and HII wants you to be engaged in the political process, but on your own time. HII considers that registering to vote, voting, contributing financially to the party or candidate of one’s choice, serving in civic bodies, and campaigning and office-holding at local, state and national levels are important rights and responsibilities of the citizens of a democracy.
Employees engaging in political activities are expected to do so as private citizens and must avoid any implication of participating on behalf of the company. Such activity should not interfere with the employee’s job responsibilities, utilize company branding or resources, or create or imply a conflict of interest.
In addition, unless specifically authorized by the company or Corporate Command Media CP A7, employees are prohibited from any activity that a reasonable person would consider political campaigning, or for soliciting or collecting political contributions and/or distributing or posting any material of a political nature while on company property or on company time.
At the request of the company and in concert with assigned job responsibilities, certain employees may act on behalf of the company to execute the political activities of the company. Any political activities engaged in by or on behalf of the company are carried out only as permitted by and in strict compliance with all applicable laws and company policies and procedures.
The Government and Customer Relations (GCR) Office primarily does those activities on behalf of the company. The GCR Office is responsible for federal lobbying, major marketing activities, and administration of the Huntington Ingalls Industries Political Action Committee (HIIPAC).
HIIPAC is the voluntary, employee-funded, and employee-managed entity used to support the election of federal lawmakers who believe in robust national security, the importance of our nation’s defense industrial base, and support our efforts at providing mission-critical national security solutions to government and commercial customers.
Activities associated with HIIPAC are compliant with company procedures and state and federal law. HII’s political activities through HIIPAC are highly regulated. HII files monthly reports with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) on HIIPAC political expenditures and fundraising. Further, the FEC establishes contribution limits. PACs may only contribute $5,000 to candidate committees per election.
