2022 Q4 Earnings

This morning we released fourth quarter and year-end results. They reflect the hard work and dedication of our outstanding employees, who delivered another year of steady progress on our ship programs, and growth in our Mission Technologies division. We reported sales of $2.8 billion for the quarter and $10.7 billion for the full year. For complete financial results, please read our news release.

These highlights from our business segments reflect our continued focus on operational execution:

Ingalls Shipbuilding has started fabrication on Fallujah (LHA 9) after winning a $2.4 billion detail design and construction contract in October for the America-class large-deck amphibious ships. During the quarter, Ingalls delivered guided missile destroyer Lenah Sutcliffe Higbee (DDG 123) to our U.S. Navy customer. The division also successfully completed builder’s trials for Jack H. Lucas (DDG 125) and began fabrication of Sam Nunn (DDG 133). In January, Ingalls was awarded the advanced planning contract for the modernization period for Zumwalt-class guided missile destroyers.

Last year Mission Technologies successfully completed the integration of Alion Science and Technology after HII’s purchase of the company in 2021. The company and our customers are already benefiting from the synergies unlocked by this acquisition. Mission Technologies was awarded a U.S. Air Force contract to provide technical analysis and research supporting artificial intelligence, machine learning and cyber modernization priorities as well as a U.S. Air Force electronic warfare research and analysis task order. Our Unmanned Systems business group also unveiled REMUS 620, a mission-ready medium-class unmanned underwater vehicle that provides unmatched capabilities for mine countermeasures, hydrographic surveys, intelligence collection, surveillance and electronic warfare.

During the fourth quarter, Newport News Shipbuilding authenticated the keel of Virginia-class attack submarine Arkansas (SSN 800). The team has reached approximately 98% completion of the refueling and complex overhaul of USS George Washington (CVN 73), and is also well underway in the test program on Ford-class aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy (CVN 79). In 2023, our NNS team is looking forward to the delivery of submarines New
Jersey (SSN 796) and Massachusetts (SSN 798) as well as the re-delivery of USS George Washington (CVN 73) and for the crew to move aboard John F. Kennedy (CVN 79).

During the quarter, HII was awarded approximately $3.2 billion in new contracts and our backlog is now approximately $47.1 billion. We are well positioned to execute on this backlog while continuing to grow in markets of critical importance to our customers.

I am proud of all of the hard work put in by the team and that HII remains an employer of choice, committed to supporting our customers in service of national security and the nation.
