I am encouraged by the hard work and progress underway across the enterprise to support our customers. There is more to do.
Today I am announcing that Eric Chewning has assumed a new position, executive vice president of maritime systems and corporate strategy. This broadening of his responsibilities is consistent with HII’s mission to deliver the advantage to our customers, through the full breadth of seapower and integrated, multi-domain technology solutions.
While division shipyard presidents retain responsibility for shipyard operations including program execution, Chewning works alongside them in leading the company’s strategy for future maritime capabilities and fleet architecture, including development of hybrid manned-unmanned teaming strategies; identifying outsourcing partners to accelerate throughput; driving business pursuits for new maritime capabilities; managing enterprise strategic partnerships; and overseeing enterprise strategy, and the Dark Sea Labs advanced technology group.
Since joining HII in January 2023, Chewning has leveraged his experience including leading industrial base policy for the U.S. Department of Defense to expand HII’s shipbuilding capacity, growing of domestic and international partnerships, and developing advanced technologies in support of the U.S. Navy’s future fleet.
Make no mistake: Increasing throughput for our customers is HII’s top priority.
