The impacts of compliance or ethics failures on corporations can be swift, extensive, and unpredictable. As the complexity of corporate compliance challenges grow, HII’s compliance program acts as an immune system. It must be simple, effective, and foster a culture of integrity and accountability across all employees, regardless of their geographic location.

HII intentionally built an immune system using its Compliance Program and Compliance Assessment Management System (CAMS). CAMS is a systematic way of managing compliance that HII turned into a digitally managed workflow designed for the business and owned by the business. It allows HII to prevent, detect, and remediate misconduct by assessing compliance risks, adapting to regulatory changes, and delegating risk areas for business accountability, ownership and mitigation.

To enhance compliance through a digital workflow, HII developed CAMS software in partnership with Ivis Technologies. Each division and business unit has its own detailed annual compliance plan, assessing risk values for core compliance elements, such as timekeeping, progressing, and preventing retaliation, among other areas of compliance risks. CAMS provides leaders with visibility into compliance risks and mitigation actions, streamlining processes and empowering informed decisions.

As we recognize Ethics and Compliance month during August, it’s important to note that since its implementation in 2016, CAMS has saved thousands of man-hours and reduced compliance costs, while enhancing understanding, accountability, communication, and collaboration across the enterprise.  By continuously improving and exercising its compliance muscles, CAMS has helped HII maintain a healthy immune system.
