This morning we reported record third quarter revenue of $2.8 billion, which is 7.2% higher than during the same period last year. New contract awards during the quarter were $5.4 billion, resulting in an approximate backlog of $49 billion. Our financial results demonstrate our commitment to achieving our goals of steady operational performance, executing on our existing contracts, and growth at Mission Technologies. For complete financial results, please read our news release.
These highlights from our business segments reflect another outstanding quarter of growth and execution across the enterprise:
During the quarter, Ingalls Shipbuilding launched amphibious assault ship Bougainville (LHA 8); authenticated the keel of amphibious assault ship Fallujah (LHA 9); completed acceptance trials for national security cutter Calhoun (NSC 10); and launched and christened guided missile destroyer Ted Stevens (DDG 128). Ingalls was also awarded contracts for seven Arleigh Burke-class destroyers and a $155 million contract for the modernization of USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000).
Mission Technologies reported a third straight quarter of record revenue and was awarded several contracts, including a $1.4 billion Joint Network Engineering and Emerging Operations task order; $347 million for Lionfish small unmanned undersea vehicle production; and $244 million to integrate Minotaur software products into maritime platforms.
Newport News Shipbuilding authenticated the keel of Virginia-class submarine Oklahoma (SSN 802); reached the pressure hull complete milestone on Arkansas (SSN 800); and was awarded a $528 million contract to support maintenance of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers ported in San Diego.
I commend our entire talented team across HII for your unwavering commitment to quality, safety, and the highest ethical standards, and ultimately to execution in service of our customers and the nation. Our mission means that all of us are part of something greater than ourselves. With my appreciation and respect, please keep up your hard work.
