This morning, we reported first quarter revenues of $2.7 billion, which is 4% higher than during the same period last year and a record first quarter result for HII. We are well positioned to execute on our approximately $47 billion of backlog while continuing to grow in markets of critical importance to our customers. For complete financial results, please read our news release.
These highlights from our business segments are a reflection of your hard work delivering excellent products and services in support of national security:
During the quarter, Ingalls Shipbuilding received a $1.3 billion detail design and construction contract for LPD 32, bringing the total amount awarded for that ship to $1.54 billion. Ingalls also won a $10.5 million modernization planning contract for Zumwalt-class guided missile destroyers, USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000) and USS Michael Monsoor (DDG 1001).
Mission Technologies was awarded a $1.3 billion task order for U.S. Africa Command Personnel Recovery Enterprise Services and Solutions. Through this contract, HII will provide a large-scale, lifesaving network of medical, rotary and fixed wing solutions to support the USAFRICOM’s Warfighter Recovery Network. Mission Technologies was also awarded a $70.8 million recompete contract with the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center.
Newport News Shipbuilding broke ground on a new multi-class submarine production facility to support the construction and delivery of Columbia- and Virginia-class submarines. Ford-class aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy (CVN 79) is approximately 89% complete. In the RCOH program, USS George Washington (CVN 73) is 99% complete.
This has been a solid start to 2023, with record first quarter sales and continued long-term stability, given our significant backlog. We continue to emphasize our fundamentals, driving productivity, to ensure we meet our customers’ commitments. Thank you for the hard work you do each day in service of our nation.
